The MobileSymphony is a participative composition for an undefined number of mobile phones.

Since mobile phones started to spread, their ringing has become an inherent part of the sound of public space. As most mobile phones are able to play mp3 files the public sound is filled with a accumulation of beeps, rings, chart-hits and whatever sound we put to our phones to draw our attention when someone is calling or texting us. Even birds started imitating cellphone-ringtones and meanwhile some coffee shops ask their customers to turn off their phones. Imagine all phones in your surrounding would ring in tonal relations to each other. This is the MobileSymphony.

The MobileSymphony is created when several phones with MobileSymphony ringtones ring at the same time. The MobileSymphony is played by everyone calling a phone with a MobileSymphony ringtone. The audience is everyone in range of audibility of the ringing. The more people with MobileSymphony ringtones meet, the more dense and complex the MobileSymphony gets. Imagine someone calling you in public space and just at the same time someone else, who also has got a MobileSymphony ringtone on his or her mobile phone, receives a call: A musical moment is being by two complete strangers.
